This kit is HUGE

(at 1/24 scale) and very lacking in detail. Purchased in '94 for $65.00 new. What you get is the body(with optional opening side & upper deck cabinets, 3 foam guns & emergency lighting ) a 3 piece no detail engine block, exhaust muffler/stacks and air intakes, frame (with not so bad detail), 2 rear axles, 2 front twin-steering axles, 8 nice rims/wheels, interior (not so bad detail),dash, bench seats, working folding bi doors & full body decals for 2 major airports in Germany.
Going to the library, I got some info on my subject (a book on airport fire trucks--a kiddie book---lots of pictures---you gotta do what you gotta do) From there, I started adding detail--the 12- cylinder diesel got wiring, external details, well-worn exhaust---all compartments got items put inside, fans put in radiator housings & pumper diesel got detailed---interior got new seats, shifter, & safety gear---frame and running gear got some wiring and weathering---foam guns detailed---I choosed Frankfurt (over Munich) decals due to paint scheme more colorfully. All complete its a R&R Vacuform 56 Pontiac Ambulance the Paint is Krylon Burgundy Interior was modified and the rear has scratch built cabinets. With a Johan cot and radio. Lights are from the parts box with a Siren light from a Die cast 1938 Ford fire truck. Trim is BMF and the decals are Chimneyville let me know what your guys think….

This is my latest emergency vehicle, It's one of two 1971 Kenworth pumpers Seattle had in their department. I used the old AMT Movin' on truck and shortened the frame, and added a single rear end from a Ford snow plow. I modified the hood for a setback axle and scratch built a new bumper. Everything past the cab, and under it is made from diamond plate sheet and plastic sheet. The various outlet/inlet valves are from an old AMT tanker. The hose, and Y gate on the rear step are from a RG Peterbilt fire truck. The wheels are cast by me. I also made the decals for it. Its a nice compliment to my scratch built Seattle Kenworth hook and ladder.

I used AMT's reissue of the American LaFrance snorkle for this truck. I found two photos of the actual truck online, showing both sides and that helped immensely. I lengthened the rear body to accommodate a third axle, and added equipment bins. I scratch built the ladder rack on the right side from diamond plate sheet and styrene strips. I also added a second water monitor and boxes to the basket as per the photos. I also made the decals. It's certainly long:).

I finished the truck part of the model tonight. It turned out a little better than I thought, although there are several things which I will do different next time on a closed cab Crown. The entire truck is scratch built from styrene. i used ALF front fenders, front suspension, wheels, and seats. The tandem rear end is from an AMT Kenworth. I made the LA County logos for the door. The truck is Tamiya Italian red spray paint over Testor's metallic silver base. The low bed trailer is next to be scratch built and then an AMT D8 cat added after suitable modifications to it.
